Because there’s more to life than making a few bucks…

Giving a little back to the community

Every month I set aside a few days that aren’t for sale.

Sure, Pinetree is a business, but I also believe there ought to be room in every business for helping people without any worry about reward. Each month, I set aside two to four workdays — about 16 to 32 hours — to provide handyman help at no charge. Most of those hours are intended for people in our community who have a genuine need but may not be in a position to easily afford professional handyman services. From time to time, I also use those hours to help a local church, nonprofit, or community organization with a needed project.

Why do this? Because there are plenty of small home repairs that can become big problems when they’re put off, and sometimes the person who most needs a helping hand is the person least able to hire one. A loose handrail, a leaking faucet, a door that won’t close properly, or another seemingly small repair can make a real difference in someone’s safety and quality of life. I have the tools, the experience, and the ability to fix a lot of those problems — so setting aside a little of my time seems like a good way to put my skills to good use.

It’s simply a few days each month that aren’t for sale. They’re reserved for helping our neighbors when a little handyman work can make a meaningful difference.

I just LOOOOVE to paint. (Well, not really….)

Many years ago I was taught in church, and again in Scouts, to do for others– especially to do for others who need help. I’ve been doing service projects for others and for non-profits for over sixty years, and it continues to be among the most satisfying work I’ve done.

Why giving back matters

You meet amazing people

I meet some amazing people who have some amazing stories, and who come from all walks of life. It’s great to be able to connect.

And at days’ end…

At days’ end, you’re not counting the dollars you earned- you’re thinking about what you were able to accomplish for someone who needed you. That sort of pay is…. priceless.
