Need advice? An unbiased opinion?

Sometimes what you may need isn’t a guy with a hammer and a screwdriver. What you need is someone who will listen. Someone who seeks to understand in order to help you to make informed decisions.

Homeowners often find themselves facing decisions they’re not completely comfortable making. Maybe you’ve received repair estimates that seem unusually high. Perhaps a contractor has said or done something that just doesn’t feel right. Or maybe you’re planning improvements and want an experienced set of eyes and ears before spending thousands of dollars.

I’ve been a homeowner for over thirty-five years while living in three different states. I have dealt with good (and not-so-good) contractors, unexpected repairs, confusing estimates, equipment failures, and projects that didn’t go according to plan.

Maybe you’re asking yourself some of these questions:

  • Can (or should) I do this myself?
  • Is this the right solution?
  • Am I being sold something I don’t actually need?
  • What questions should I be asking?
  • What are they not telling me?
  • What would you do if this were your house?

Those are all good questions. Perhaps I can help.

For more than 25 years I worked as a management consultant, helping people and organizations analyze problems, evaluate options, and make informed decisions. Today, I bring that same approach to homeowners. Perhaps you want to speak to me about performing your project- and if that’s the case, my “consulting” services up front are at no charge. We’ll sit down, look at your situation, discuss your goals, and talk through the pros and cons of the options available. My goal isn’t to sell you a project—it’s to help you understand your choices so you can make the decision that’s best for your home and your budget.

Sometimes that conversation may lead to me doing the work. Sometimes it means I recommend a specialist. Sometimes it means telling you how to save some money. Either way, you’ll receive an honest opinion.

While the cartoon we created on the left is amusing, there’s nothing funny about having to deal with more serious issues of home ownership. Perhaps you’re experiencing badly performed work, contractor liens, exorbitant estimates, water leaks, code violations or any number of other unpleasant things.

Sometimes when dealing with issues that are costing you money (and some sleepless nights) you need to pay for an unbiased opinion. Someone who will sit down, discuss your situation and then provide advice. Someone who knows the ins and outs of home ownership as well as maintenance and upgrades.

If that’s you, perhaps my consulting services can help you get things back on track. In most cases, one or two hours of advice and work on my part can make a big difference.

I’ve helped people think and work through everything from selecting specialty contractors to planning renovations, troubleshooting technical problems, deciding which tools to purchase, and determining the most practical way to move forward.

Some problems don’t need another salesman. They just need someone who has been there.

Please note: I don’t provide legal, engineering, or licensed professional advice, nor am I a licensed inspector. When those services are needed, I’m happy to help you understand the issues involved and point you toward the right professionals.
